  • This empire came to prominence at the end of the 13th century when the southern forces sought to deter Muslim invasions. During its height nearly all ruling families in South Indian and the Sultans in the Deccan region had been subjugated by the Vijayanagara empire.
  • The rule lasted till 1646, though its power declined after the defeat at the battle of Talikota in 1565 by the joint armies of the Deccan sultanates.
