The hostility of the neighboring rulers forced Guru Gobind Singh to build a number of forts after the victory at the Battle of Bhangani in 1686.
Six forts were built at Anandpur Sahib, with Keshgarh Sahib at the centre and surrounded by five other forts.
The other five forts were
Qila Lohgarh Sahib,
Qila Holgarh Sahib,
Qila Anandgarh Sahib,
Qila Fatehgarh Sahib
Qila Taragarh Sahib.
All these forts served for the defense of the Sikhs from the invaders.
