When metal is added to an acid, salt is produced giving off hydrogen gas.
Test to find Hydrogen's presence:
(It can be tested by bringing a burning candle near the gas.)
Procedure:
A splint is lit and held near the opening (mouth) of the tube, then the stopper is removed to expose the splint to the gas.
If the gas is hydrogen, it extinguishes with a distinctive 'squeaky pop' sound.
