Crude oil is generally trapped in between the porous of layer of non-solid rocks that are compacted as sandstones.
The layer above the crude oil is generally porous which makes it easier for drilling the oil out while the layer below the formation of crude oil is a layer of solid rock which prevents the oil from seeping further down.
