The Winter Palace is situated in Saint Petersburg, Russia and was the offical residence of monarchs of Russia between 1732 to 1917.


A massacre had taken place in 1905 when demonstrators had marched towards the palace.


A peaceful protest was announced by Russian Orthodox priest and popular leader among working class, Father Gabon.


About 100,000 workers went to present petition to TSAR for fundamental reforms and founding a constituent parliament.

He was a leader among the working classes and went to protest .

However the protest was crushed and the police killed several people .


This was the cause that led to 1905 Revolution.

The day was called Black Sunday because of the unfortunate deaths.


Many were killed during the march and several others were injured.
