Name the male and female gonads give their functions

The gonads include the testes in males and ovaries in females. They produce reproductive cells and secrete hormones, which control reproductive organs.

  • Testis

It produce male hormone that is androgen.

Important androgen of testis is testosterone.

Testosterone is responsible for deep voice, enlargement of genital organs and appearance of beard in male.

  • Ovary

It produce female hormone that is oestrogen.

It maintain pregnancy.

Help in implantation of the embryo or foetus.

  • Corpus Luteum

It produce rennin hormone, which regulate erythropoisis or haemopoisis in bone marrow.

It also influence ultra filtration in nephron of kidney.

Note : The most important function of gonad is to produce gametes for reproduction. It is also known as sex gland.
