Many metals are found in the form of ores in the earth.

These ores are generally compounds of the pure element which is extracted by various processes. One of the processes followed is Carbon Reduction Process.

In this process, metals which are present as oxides are reduced by heating the metal oxide along with carbon. On this heating, Oxygen is lost by the element and gets reduced while carbon gets oxidised to form carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide.

This element is later extracted and is called as the metallic form of an element.

Some of the metals are: Zinc, Iron, Copper, etc.

Metals which are in the middle of the reactivity series are genrally reduced by this process.
