Answer:

Sodium Nitrate

Explanation:

Nitric acid is the basic component for the purpose of Nitration. To produce metal nitrates, nitric acid is used. On the other end, to produce nitric acid a metal nitrate is also used.

When sodium nitrate reacts with concentrated sulphuric acids, this results in the production of sodium hydrogen sulphate and nitric acid.

sodium nitrate + Sulphuric Acids === sodium hydrogen sulphate + nitric acid

NaNO3 (s) + H2SO4 (conc) == NaHSO4 (aq) + HNO3 (l)

The metallic nitrate used for preparation of nitric acid in lab is sodium nitrate or potassium nitrate.

In lab nitric acid is prepared by heating potassium nitrate(KNO3) or sodium nitrate(NaNO3) and concentrated sulphuric acid (H2SO4) in a glass retort. Reaction is :--

NaNO3(s) + H2SO4(conc)-------> NaHSO4(aq) + HNO3(l)

Nitric acid is the most common and important oxoacid of  nitrogen.

Laboratory grade nitric acid contains 68 % of HNO3 by mass and has specific gravity of 1.504.

In gaseous state nitric acid is planar molecule and on aqueous medium nitric acid behaves as a stong acid giving hydronium and nitrate ions.

So in lab nitric acid prepare by metal nitrate of sodium or potassium.
