A phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering causes light from the sun to bounce of tiny particles in the atmosphere and scatter in different directions.

  • During sunrise/sunset light rays from sun travel a larger part of atmospherre.
  • During this particles in atmosphere scatter most of light rays, except red light which has maximum wavelngth.
  • As most of the light rays reaching us are red, sun appears red during sunrise/sunset.
