Collenchyma are the plant tissues made up of cells which are elongated and the cell wall is thickened at the corners. It is found in the leaf stalks and below the epidermis of stems. This tissue provides support to the plant parts.

The plant tissue which has thickened cells at the corners with non lignified cell wall is Collenchyma. Collenchyma in plant cells support the cell wall and helps in forming the cell structure. The strength of the tissue is the result of these thickened cell walls and the longitudinal interlocking of the cells which gives strength to the cells. The collenchyma tissue is only temporarily functional and becomes crushed as woody tissue develops in plants where secondary tissue is present.
