Preparation of aldehyde from carbon dioxide and benzene

Explanation:

It is termed as Gatterman kosh reaction

The reactants in it are :

Benzene that is C₆H₆

Carbon monoxide (CO)

In this benzene reacts with carbon monoxide in presence of hydrogen chloride and anhydrous Aluminium chloride to form an intermediate that forms benzaldehyde .

Let us write the reaction involved :

C₆H₆ + CO +HCl (dry )-----> C₆H₅CHO

                                   anhydrous

                                    AlCl₃
