Olfaction, also known as olfactics, is the sense of smell......... In humans, olfaction occurs when odorant molecules bind to specific sites on the olfactory receptors.

The detectors which is used to detect the smell and the taste is called Olfactory receptors.

It is present in the cell membrane of olfactory receptors neuron which has a huge responsible of detecting odorants. The main function of this receptors is to sense the smell and transmitting the information to the brain.

As it is sensing the smell of odor it is also called Odorants receptors. Usually in vertebrates it is located in the 'cilia' of the sensory neurons of olfactory receptors.
