Answer:

Hi

Explanation:

The reducing agent in the following reaction: 3MnO₂ + 4AL → 3Mn + 2AL₂O₃ is Al.

According to the Reactivity series, Aluminium stays at High reactivity series than Manganese. Thus, Aluminium is more reactive than Manganese.

Given:

3MnO2 + 4Al ———— > 3Mn + 2Al2O3

To find:

  • Reducing agent ?

  • Among Mn and Al , which is more reactive ?

Solution:

First of all , latest know the definition of a reducing agent in a redox reaction.

  • A reducing agent is that substance which itself gets oxidized but reduces the other reactant.

In the above reaction , in the reactant side , Aluminium was in 0 oxidation state and Manganese was in +4 oxidation state.

In the product side, Manganese is in 0 oxidation state and Aluminium is in +3 oxidation state.

  • So, Aluminium reduced the oxidation state of Manganese from +4 to 0 , hence ALUMINIUM IS THE REDUCING AGENT.

  • Aluminium is more reactive than manganese because it lies higher in the reactivity series of metals.
