The site of fertilisation of ovum in human beings is the Fallopian tube/ oviduct.

The egg is released by the overy. Then it travels through the oviduct where it may or may not undergo fertilisation.

If the ovum is fertilised then if will result into a developing embryo and would give rise to a young one.

Whereas if the ovum is left unfertilised then it will result in the breakdown of the lining which is rich in blood vessels and this would ultimately result in menstruation in that female.
