The river Ganga is originated at the upper valley of the Bhagirathi River. It started flowing from the glacier of Gharwhal Himalaya. The source of Bhagirati river is Gangotri Glacier. This river is sacred for Hindus. The valleys and the more than 6 kilometer peaks andbthese glaciers are protected in Gangotri National Park. The other source of Ganga river are Gangotri Glacier, Satopanth Glacier and waters from melted snow from such peaks as Kedarnath, and Kamet.

The Ganga enters to the northern plain near Allahabad.

It flows through the city of Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kanpur, Fatehpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Kolkata, etc. it's length is 2525 km and depth is 17 m.

The Ganges is highly polluted river. Pollution is harmful not only for the humans, but also for 140 fish species and dolphin. The Ganga action plan is launched for it to keep it free from harmful chemical and keep it pollution free.
