The sub stages are mentioned below :

(i) This stage of pairing of the chromosomes that are homologous occurs in the phase named as Zygotene. This process of their pairing is termed as synapsis.

(ii) The tetrads are formed during the stage named pachytene. In the tetrad condition, the 2 chromatids that are of the same chromosome is known as sister chromatids and the 2 chromatids that are not of the same chromosomes is termed as non sister chromatids.

(iii) In the stage called diplotene, the chromosomes that are homologous tends to get separated.
