Why we should not join the wire connected to the two terminal of the electric cell?
Answers
Because if you connect both terminals without “an appliance” in between them to form a circuit, then the cell will produce the highest electrical current which it can provide and such uncontrolled release of energy may cause either the cell to overheat, or the wire you use to connect cell's terminals to overheat.
I hope this helped you!!
The connection of two terminals with no load in between is called a short. Which causes short circuit. What happens is that, due to the fact that batteries have very low internal resistance(nearly in miliohms range) and the wire used to short the terminals is similarly resistive. So a huge amount of current is flown by the battery to compensate for the voltage drop. As ohms law says, the battery will do anything it takes to keeps the voltage constant. In this process, high amount of current is passed. Which heats up everything in the closed circuit. Including the battery. Which might contain flammable materials like vaporized dielectrics. This might certainly lead to fire hazards. Thus it's not advisable.
