Rocks are classified into three groups called igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. The word igneous is derived from the Latin word ignis meaning ‘fire’.The word sedimentary is derived from latin word sedentum, which means ‘settle down'. The word Metamorphic is derived from the Greek word metamorphosis which means ‘change of form'.
