There are two parts to each heartbeat:

the systole is when the heart contracts and pumps blood.

the diastole is when the heart relaxes, after contraction, so the chambers can refill with blood.

Two components of the heartbeat are systole and diastole.

  • When the heart pumps blood, blood flows in articles and ventricles through a contraction.
  • When the heart contracts during pumping or transport of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood, is called systole.
  • When the heart relaxes while pumping is known as diastole.
  • During contraction and relaxation, a sound is produced i.e lub and dub which constitute one heartbeat.
