Force is the rate of change of momentum and momentum is mass times velocity. So the time a force takes to stop a body moving with a constant velocity depends upon the mass and it's velocity ( or their product which is the momentum ). In fact a momentum can be defined as a measure of the time a given forces takes to stop the moving object.
