Answer:

The blood vessels are the components of the circulatory system that transport blood throughout the human body. There are five types of blood vessels: the arteries, which carry the blood away from the heart; the arterioles; the capillaries, where the exchange of water and chemicals between the blood and the tissues occurs; the venules; and the veins, which carry blood from the capillaries back towards the heart.

The word vascular, meaning relating to the blood vessels, is derived from the Latin vas, meaning vessel. Some structures – such as cartilage, the epithelium, and the lens and cornea of the eye – do not contain blood vessels and are labeled avascular.

There are three main types of blood vessels are as follows:

  1. Arteries:- Arteries carry oxygen- rich blood away from the heart to all the body's tissues .They branch several times, becoming smaller and smaller as they carry blood farther from the heart and into organs.
  2. Capillaries:- These are small, thin blood vessels that connect the arteries and veins. Their thin walls allow oxygen , nutrients, carbon dioxide and the waste products to pass to and from cells.
  3. Veins:-These are the blood vessels that take blood back to the heart ; this blood contains less oxygen and is rich in waste products that are to be excreted or removed from the body .Veins become larger as they get closer to the heart . The superior vena cava is the large vein that brings blood from the head and arms to the heart , and the inferior vena cava bring blood from the abdomen and legs into the heart.
