Raisins are dried grapes. When they are put in water, the water from the surrounding water diffuses into the raisins, thus the raisins swell up. This is called the endosmosis.
When the grapes are put in sugar water, hypertonic syrup makes the water from the grapes to move out down the concentration gradient. This is called the exosmosis.
