Heat transfer in which heat is carried from what are part of a substance to it colder part by the actual movement of the hot particles is called convection
The three natural phenomena which occur due to convection currents are :
1.CONVECTION CURRENTS IN THE OCEAN WATER :
The ocean water near the equator gets heated by the direct sun rays. As a result the ocean water in this region becomes hotter and lighter. The ocean water in the polar region is colder and therefore denser. Being lighter the warm water starts flowing on the surface of ocean from the equatorial region to the polar region and the cold water starts flowing from the polar region tutorial region below the surface of the ocean. Such flow of ocean water forms ocean currents. Ocean currents help in maintaining the ocean temperature.
2. CONVECTION CURRENTS IN THE ATMOSPHERE :
Sea breeze and land breeze are actually Convection currents. During the day the land warms up more than the sea. The air over the land becomes hotter and Rises upwards. To take its place the cooler air from the Sea moves towards the land.
After sunset the land loses heat faster than the sea water. As a result and over the sea is warmer at night. The air over the sea being warmer rise up and to take its place cooler air from the land starts moving towards the sea.
3. CONVECTION CURRENTS IN THE AIR OF THE ROOM :
Breathing by the people living in a room increases the percentage of moisture and carbon dioxide in the air. The Moist and warm air containing carbon dioxide is light and hence Rises up. If then passes out of the ventilators. This causes a drop in pressure within the room. Thus the cold and fresh from the doors and windows flows in. Thus continuous circulation of the air maintained within the room by the Convection currents.
