There are three types of permanent tissues as per their functions :

Protective tissue:

They prevent the plant from dryness and infection.

Supporting tissue:

It is of several types.

The three most important ones are Parenchyma, Collenchyma and schlerenchyma.

Parenchyma -

  • They store food

  • They give temporary support to the plant.

Collenchyma -

This tissue helps to support the parts of a plant.

Schlerenchyma -

This tissue provides strength to the parts of plant.

Conducting tissue :

There are two types of conducting tissues called Xylem and phloem.

Xylem -

  • Xylem tracheids provide mechanical support.

  • Xylem Parenchyma stores food.

  • Xylem Parenchyma also helps in the conduction of water and minerals.

Phloem -

  • Sieve tubes helps in the transport of food from leaves to other parts of the plant.

  • Companion cells helps in the functioning of the sieve tube cell.
