Indigenous breeds:- The breeds which are found in particular breeding tract in India are known as Indigenous breeds.

Exotic Breeds:- The breeds which are found outside the india and are brought in India for increasing milk production of our Indigenous breeds of cows are known as Exotic Breeds like Brown Swiss, Jersey, Holstein Freisan etc.

Now Indigenous breeds of cows in India are of Three Major types

1.Milch Breeds:- Reared mainly for milk production example are 1Gir,
2.Sahiwal,3.Red Sindhi,4.Deoni

2.Dual purpose Indigenous breeds:-
Reared both for milk production and draught purposeExample 1,. Tharparkar2.Hariana3. Kankrej 4. Ingole 5. Krishna Valley etc.

3.Draught purpose Indigenous breeds of cows are reared only for their Bull calves which are used for draught purpose and ploughing Examples:- 1.Nagori 2.Malvi 3.Amrit Mahal.
