Gold

  1. Corrosion of some metals is an advantage: Example: Corrosion of aluminium is useful. Al2 O3 (s) Thus a protective layer of aluminium oxide is formed on the surface of the metal, which renders the metal passive and prevents its further corrosion.

Metals which do not corrode easily are Gold and Platinum.

(a)Corrosion of some metals are wantedly done in order to protect the layer of metal beneath from corrosion. This process is called Galvanisation.

(b) Corrosion of metal is a serious problem because it leads to wastage of money. such as in maintaining iron made machinery.
