National Parties of India :-
1) Indian National Congress (INC) :-
Indian National Congress, commonly known as Congress is the oldest and first national party of India. The first PM belonged to this party. INC has its deep roots associated with the freedom struggle of India. In other words, INC played a crucial role in the freedom struggle.
2) Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)
BJP is the only party in country that is a true competitor of INC. BJP was at its peak during Vajpayee's rule. However, Indira Gandhi and Rajeev Gandhi leading the INC that time, again pushed INC at the top. Currently in Modi's government also BJP is leading party.
Regional parties :-
1) Samajwadi Party :-
Samajwadi Party gained popularity for ruling the State with highest number of Lok Sabha seats (Uttar Pradesh). This party comprises family members as their leaders which is a contrast to democracy.
2) JD(S) :-
Janta Dal Secular is the regional Party of Karnataka. This party became popular after the 2018 Karnataka's election when leader of this party became CM after an alliance with INC. Also, leader of this party (HD Devgaura) once became the PM of India.
