Heya user !!!
Here's the answer you are looking for
The two processes which are responsible for ascent of sap are
1. Root pressure
In this the root xylem vessels absorb the minerals from the soil as a result the water potential outside the root increases and inside the root decreases.
So, due to this water potential difference, water starts entering to the xylem of root.
2. Transpiration pull.
The mesodermal cells of stomata after transpiration, develop a negative water potential. So water from the veins of leafs moves to the cells. Now a negative water potential is developed in the veins of leaves. So water from nearby branch or stem move to the vein. Now the nearby branch or stem develops a negative water potential and hence water from the root moves to this area.
Now, finally , the root develops a negative water potential and hence water from soil moves into it.
This is a continuous process when transpiration occurs (that is during the day time)
