Vernier Calliper basically works with the help of two scales
1.Main scale, and
2.Vernier scale

Now, here is how you take measurments with the help of a Verneir Calliper
→Take reading from main scale corresponding to sliding scale's ZERO.Note it down.[say 8]
→Now if this value is exact. then this is the measurment. [i.e 8.0]
→If this value is not accurate and the sliding scale's zero coincide somewhere at 4th line after the reading . Ther the measurment is 
the value+0.4 [i.e 8.4]
