Passive absorption is type of absorption that occurs along the concentration gradient, either directly through cell membrane, or by means of facilitated diffusion. Examples of passive absorption in plants are:
- Water from the soil is absorbed in plants by means of passive absorption mainly osmosis. Root hair cells absorb the water from soil into them.
- Certain minerals like magnesium etc, which are present in low or trace amounts in the root cells are absorbed passively through root hair cells along with water.
