Answer:

Concentration of solutions and concentration gradient. Osmosis is greater when the separated solutions have a greater difference in osmotic pressure. In summary, the greater the concentration gradient, the greater the rate of osmosis and vice versa.

Factors that affect osmosis in plants:

Osmosis is phenomenon where the solvent moves from region of its higher concentration to region of their lower concentration through semipermeable membrane.

Several factors affect rate of osmosis as explained below:

  • Temperature – Increase in temperature increases molecule velocity, thereby increasing rate of osmosis.
  • Pressure – Difference in pressure between two sides of osmosis results in difference in rate of osmosis. Theory of reverse osmosis comes from here.
  • Concentration difference – It is directly proportional to rate of osmosis.
  • The pore size of semipermeable membrane – Is also directly proportional to rate of osmosis.
