Iodine can be used to stain onion cells. It is a starch indicator. It combines with the starch molecules in cytoplasm and nucleus and makes them visible.
whereas in human cheek cell experiment methylene blue is used for staining. Cells stained with methylene blue looks like squamous epithelial cells. Keep in mind that methylene blue is toxic and can be dangerous when comes to skin contact.
