Beginning of Medieval period is marked by the rise of the Rajput clan. The mdieval period lasted from the 8th to the 18th century CE is also referred to as Postclassical Era. with early Medieval period from the 8th to the 13th century and the late medieval period from the 13th to the 18th century.
The rajput clans were marked by several Dynasties but of all the most important ones were :-
The Khiljis (1290 AD – 1320 AD) – Delhi Sultanate was taken over by Jalaluddin Khilji. But he was murdered by Alauddin Khilji who then took over his position. Khilji ruled most of the South India.
The Mughal Empire (1526 AD – 1857 AD) - The Sultans of Delhi were replaced by the Mughals who were great patronage of art, music, culture and architecture. They ruled strongly till 1707 and after this the Mughal Empire weakened and disintegrated.
Other significant empires under the Rajput clans were, The Tughlaqs (1320 AD – 1412 AD), The Sayyids and Lodhi Sultans (1414 AD – 1526 AD), The Chola Empire.
From 12th centennial to 18th centennial is called the medieval period or middle age in India.
This middle age is divided in to two i) early middle age and ii) late middle age.
The Maratha Empire was abided from 1674 to 1818 and this empire covered most of the sub-continent around 2.8million kilometers.
The efficient rulers during the medieval periods are Mahmud of Ghazni, Sultan Muiz-Ud-Din Muhammad of Ghur, Qutb-Ud-Din Aibak, Sultan Iltutmish, Ghiyas-Ud-Din Balban, Jalal-Ud-Din Firozshah Khalji, Ala-Ud-Din Khalji, Nasir-Ud-Din Khusrav Shah, Qutb-Ud-Din Mubarak Khalji, Ghiyas-Ud-Din Tughlaq Shah.
All the kings who ruled during middle age showed concentration in the development of art, architecture, culture and heritage.
