Explanation:
Between the ages 9-17 I looked my worst. There is no way to sugarcoat it. I was morbidly obese; I also had bad skin and had the worst kind of hair a girl could want. I was an eyesore. The kid me was not prepared to face the superficiality of the world. I did not expect them to judge me before giving me a chance.
I was nice to everyone, and I was good at many things, yet I was judged by what was obvious on the surface. The person I was and the qualities I had didn’t matter. This pained me greatly. In those days of pain, I decided to have a set of values that I will uphold regardless of what course my life takes. I have listed most of them.
- I will not treat good lookers with a bias. I consciously avoid this
- I will smile and talk to everyone without discrimination
- I will never deny someone the joy of a compliment
- I will judge people by what they speak, how they treat others and the values they possess
- I will reward kindness twofold
- I will not hesitate to be the first to say ‘Hello’
- I will greet everyone with a smile
- I will consciously try and inculcate the good qualities I see in everyone
- I will place value in character and personality above all else. Looks will never matter in personal interactions and also romance.
I will stay humble and not let success of any kind get to my head
The current me has come a long way from my ugly old days. I am however the same person I was then, just a different shell.
