Smiling, I ticked another day off my calendar. Finally, we only had a month and three days left till the annual exam. I had been studying hard for this exam for the past year, staying up every night and waking up early every morning, just to read and memorise a few more pages. I knew how important this exam was, and how it would change my life for the better if I could get good results in it. It would help me incredibly in accomplishing my dream of becoming a lawyer and make my parents proud. I was confident in acing this exam, knowing I was well-prepared.
Suddenly, I got a call from my best friend, Susan. "Hey, have you seen the news? The exam's cancelled." "What?" I asked in disbelief. "Yeah, they just announced it ten minutes ago." Hanging up quickly, I checked the news app on my phone. The big headlines "ALL EXAMS CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 VIRUS" entered my eyes. My heart broke and I started to sob, knowing all my preparations have gone to waste now.
I spent only five minutes crying before heading downstairs to tell my parents. They comforted me and reassured me that my preparations will continue to help me in the future when I become a lawyer. However, I know they are just as concerned as me. This cancellation means I would have to wait another year to take the exam, and all my future plans will be delayed, including my scholarship to Harvard. I knew if I could take the exam, I would do well and be another step closer to achieving my dream. For now, I can do nothing but send emails to the Department of Education asking them to reconsider their foolish decision.
