The role played by the gram sabha during the Mughal period was very important as they had to perform a number of duties and had many responsibilities on their back.
It was mostly composed of the elderly and the most important duties included collecting funds or revenue and to uplift the matter of castes in a heterogeneously populated village containing people of different castes.
