The author Jerome K Jerome knew of a boy Stivvings was called Sanford and Merton by him and his friends. In accordance to the author or narrator he was the most extraordinary boy who liked to study and liked reading Greek in bed and loved French irregular verbs. He had weird and unnatural notions for bringing credit to his parents and fame and honour to his school. He yearned to win prizes and wanted to grow up to be a clever man.But he was too weak and got I'll about twice in a week. When any known disease was around ten miles of him he got it too.But when it was hot days he got bronchitis and suffered from hay fever in summer.Afrer six week's period of drought he would be stricken down with rheumatoid fever and get a sunstroke after going out in November fog.
Once he was given laughing has because he suffered from bad teeth but that only made him laugh enough to draw out all his teeth and had false teeth in no time.He suffered from neuralgia and ear ache and hot scarlet fever during the great cholera scare of 1871 though the other people of his neighbourhood were safe.He was taken care of when I'll and was given chicken and grapes to it and not allowed to do Latin exercises which made him sob while the narrator and his friends longed to have a life like him. This is a peculiar character that the author has introduced to us through his reputed novel three men in a boat.
