Natural vegetation and wildlife exist only in the narrow zone of contact between the lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere. We call it Biosphere. In the biosphere, living beings are inter-related and inter-dependent on each other for survival. This life supporting system is known as ecosystem. Natural vegetation and wildlife are our valuable resources.
Natural Vegetation :-
Plants support all critical functions in the biosphere. Plants regulate the flow of numerous biochemical cycles, most critically those of water, carbon and nitrogen. Plants provide us with timber, serve as wildlife habitat, gives oxygen, protect soil against soil erosion, give us fruits, vegetables, nuts, latex, gum, medicines etc. Plants give us the paper also which is essential for everyone. Plants are important to the world economy, particularly, in the use of fossil fuels as an energy source.
Wildlife :-
Wildlife includes animals, birds, insects and aquatic life forms. Wildlife can be found in all ecosystems such as deserts, rain forests, plains, mountains, oceans etc. The importance of wildlife to a continued human existence has never been more obvious than it is today. The wild animals are equally, if not more important than domesticated animals. Wildlife has a wide range of ecological, economic and cultural importance in relation to human existence. Wild animal migration, distribution and behavioural patterns can be a vital indicator into the health of an ecosystem and the deeper impacts of climate change. Scientists can use models of animal distribution to define the best methods for the preservation of the natural environment. So, wildlife is an integral part of any ecosystem.
If a large portion of the human population were to realise the importance of vegetation and wildlife to their existence, they would be able to live a more comfortable and meaningful life.
