Solution :

Step 1 :

Let the amount of time taken by both trains as x

Step 2 :

The distance difference between Two trains = 390 - 270

= 120 miles

Step 3 :

We know that the the distance difference between two trains per hour is 20.

Hence the time difference between two trains (x) =

 =  \frac{120}{20}  \\  = 6 \: hours

Step 4 :

We know that

speed =  \frac{miles}{hours}

So the Speed of passenger train is

 =   \frac{390}{6}  = 65

So the speed of freight train is

 =  \frac{270}{6}  = 45

Step 5 :

The speed of the passenger train is 65 km per hour

The speed of the freight train is 45 km per hour
