Answer to your question:
$k {x}^{2} - 3x - 1 = 0$
put x=1/2

$k {( \frac{1}{2}) }^{2} - 3( \frac{1}{2} ) - 1 = 0$
$\frac{k}{4} - \frac{3}{2} - 1 = 0$
multiply whole equation by 4,
$k - 6 - 4 = 0$
$k - 10 = 0$
$k = 10$
