SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

Neeraj plants 3 rows of tomatoes with ‘n’ plants in each row. He also plants one row of beans with 5 plants in the row. Which of the following equations can be used to find ‘t’, the total number of bean and tomato plants Neeraj planted.

(i) t = n + 8

(ii) t = 3n + 1

(iii) t = 3n + 5

(iv) t = 5n + 3

EVALUATION

Here it is given that Neeraj plants 3 rows of tomatoes with ‘n’ plants in each row.

Total number of tomatoes planted

 \sf{ = 3 \times n}

 \sf{ = 3 n}

Neeraj also plants one row of beans with 5 plants in the row.

So total number of beans planted

 \sf{ = 1 \times 5}

 = 5

So the total number of bean and tomato plants Neeraj planted = 3n + 5

It is also stated that the total number of bean and tomato plants Neeraj planted = t

∴ t = 3n + 5

Which is the required equation

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the correct option is

(iii) t = 3n + 5
