Answer:

Nervous system:

• Nervous system conducts information in the form of electrical impulses.

• It consists of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and peripheral nervous system (cranial and spinal nerves).

• Nervous system is mainly associated with the detection of signals from the various sensory organs and and sending electrical signals to the effectors.

• For example, reflex actions, voluntary actions, involuntary actions like sneezing etc. are conducted by the nervous system.

Hormones:

• Hormones are the chemical messengers of the body.

• They are secreted by the endocrine and exocrine glands.

• They have a wider area of effect than the nervous impulses and are used for more sustained conduction of information.

• They are associated with a feedback mechanism which regulates their secretion.

• For example thyroxine secreted by thyroid glands which regulates protein and fat metabolism, insulin secreted by the pancreas which regulates blood sugar levels.

Thus nervous system and hormonal system together perform the control and coordination activities in our body.
