Answer:

This statement assumes incorrectly that there was some era of purity where “facts" somehow occurred and were shared without passing through humans to other humans. It's naive. There have been editorial decisions made about which events to share from the time of cave paintings and oral storytelling. When things began to be written in some ancient language thousands of years ago, some human(s) had editorial control. If an event occurred and the person in charge of recording official history or “news" within a kingdom or an empire didn't want it shared, it didn't get shared via the official outlets.

Victors write histories and those in control of the means of sharing information can control the “news” during ongoing conflicts as well. There's a reason that radio broadcasts from “free" areas were directed toward Nazi held areas during WWII to counter the highly edited or outright false statements being spread by the local media that were in occupied countries. There's a reason that the US spent so much money broadcasting into Soviet held countries after that war.
