Given : Nickel and iron are mixed in the ratio of 4:5 and 4:11 to make two alloys namely, X and Y, respectively.

third alloy, Z. by mixing equal quantities of X and Y.

To Find : What will be the ratio of nickel and iron present in the alloy Z?

Solution

Let say X and Y Quantity are 45A

Nickel and iron are mixed in the ratio of 4:5  in X

Hence Nickle in X = (4/(4 + 5))*45A =  20A

Iron in X = (5/(4 + 5))*45A =  25A

Nickel and iron are mixed in the ratio of 4:11  in Y

Hence Nickle in Y = (4/(4 + 11))*45A =  12A

Iron in Y = (11/(4 + 11))*45A =  33A

Total Nickle = 20A + 12A = 32A

Total Iron = 25A + 33A = 58A

Iron : Nickle =  32A : 58A

=>Iron : Nickle =  16 : 29

Ratio of iron to nickle in Z alloy is 16:29
