Nisha used 31/4m of satin cloth and 23/5m of velvet cloth to make curtain. Find the toatal length of cloth used .​

Given :

• Length of satin cloth = 31/4 m
• Length of velvet cloth = 23/5 m

To Find :

• Total length of the cloth used to make the curtain.

Solution :

In this question, we will add the length of satin cloth and length of velvet cloth to find the total length of the cloth used to make the curtain. So for adding them firstly we will make the denominator same and after that we will add them.

Making the Denominators same :

For making the Denominators same we will take the LCM (lowest common factor) of the denominators.

• LCM of denominator = 2 | 4 , 5
• LCM of denominator = 2 | 2 , 5
• LCM of denominator = 5 | 1 , 5
• LCM of denominator = | 1 , 1
• LCM of denominator = 2 × 2 × 5 = 2 × 10 = 20 m

Making the Fraction same :

• 31/4 = 31 × 5/4 × 5 = 155/20 m
• 23/5 = 23 × 4/5 × 4 = 92/20 m

Total cloth used to make the curtain :

• Length of satin cloth + Length of velvet cloth = Total Cloth used
• 155/20 + 92/20 = Total Cloth used
• 155 + 92/20 = Total Cloth used
• 247/20 = Total Cloth used

Therefore :

• Nisha used 247/20 m of cloth in total.
