Five compounds with oxygen
i.e(NxOy)
Molar mass of nitrogen = 14 g/mol
Molar mass of oxygen = 16 g/mol
Case- I
Nitrogen moles
= 1.0/14
= 0.07143
No.of moles of Oxygen
= 0.572/16
= 0.03575
Ratio N/O
= 0.07143/ 0.03575
= 1.998
= 2.0
Thus chemical formula N2O.
Similarly, you can solve for the rest of the masses and will get
Molar N/O in th proportion
1) 1:1
2) 1:2
3) 2:3
4) 2:5.
These figures agree with law of multiple proportion as according to this the masses of one element with respect to the second combining element are always in the in the ratio of whole numbers.
