nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plant growth. but farmers who cultivate pulse crop like green gram, bengal gram etc do not apply nitrogenous fertilisers during cultivation because the roots of these crop have nitrogen fixing bacteria like rhizobium which converts atmospheric nitrogen into soluble nitrates and nitrites for plants .
