We know that,

The mass of one atom of magnesium(Mg) is = 24 g

The mass of one atom of oxygen(O) is = 16 g

∴ In case of MgO₂  _

The mass of Mg = (24*2) g

                           = 48 g

The mass of O = (16*1)

                         = 16 g

∴ Total molecular mass = (48+16)

                                      = 64 g

∴ The mass % of oxygen = (16*100/64)

                                         = (100/4)

                                        = 25%

∴ The amount ofoxygen in Mg₂O is 25%
