Rutherford helped in finding the nucleus by his very famous experiment as you know, called the alpha particle scattering experiment

When the alpha particles hit the gold foil (which eventually contains gold atoms), almost one alpha particle out of 8000 gets scattered away.

By this experiment, he contributed to the atomic theory that atom does not only contain electrons, but also a positively charged nucleus present at the center of the atom, where the whole mass of the atom is concentrated.
