Just see this example...
When ester is treated with Sodium Hydroxide, Glycerol (Ethanol) and a Sodium salt of Carboxylic Acid (Sodium Ethanoate) is formed.
Reaction is as follows,
CH3COOC2H5 + NaOH → CH3COONa + CH3CH2OH
(This reaction is called Saponification reaction because it is used in the preparation of soaps)
